about

patrick vrem bio

the featured art in this collection is generated by an active, at times manic, imagination and unrelenting desire to capture dramatic images on 2D canvas.

all works are created by patrick vrem, a Canadian-American artist focused primarily on oil painting. he was born in 1991 in Montreal and immigrated to the United States at the age of 8. he is a third generation artist and received education from his mother, also a painter. while primarily self-taught, he received training at the Art Students League of Denver (ASLD) where he received instruction from Clyde Steadman and Jeff Wenzel.

vrem’s work explores the traits of human interactions and ephemeral moments that occur in their natural states. a distance is established between the emotion of a painting and its objective renderings of important experiences between amd among human beings.

working in oils and occasionally in pastels and acrylics, vrem blurs the edges between abstract and realism, subject-focused and subject-less. vrem’s influences include Paul Wonner, David Park, Richard Diebenkorn, Martin Kippenberger, Albert Oehlen, Elmer Bischoff, David Lynch, Andy Denzler, Phil Hale, among others. vrem typically works on larger canvas and linen formats.

patrick lives in Denver, Colorado with his wife and dog. when not painting, he plays golf and enjoys reading postmodern fiction. he is a believer in the benefits of a regular transcendental meditation practice for spiritual and creative processes.
